Introduction
Lavardens Castle, originally constructed as a medieval fortress, is situated atop a prominent calcareous ridge. It served as the military stronghold for the Counts of Armagnac.
The Siege of Lavardens
In 1496, the fortress faced destruction at the hands of Charles VIII during the infamous siege of Lavardens.
Reconstruction Efforts
In 1608, the castle underwent significant rebuilding initiated by Marshal Antoine de Roquelaure, a devoted ally of Henri IV. Regrettably, Roquelaure passed away before the reconstruction could be completed.
Later Ownership
In 1752, the castle came into the possession of Mirabeau, and was subsequently acquired by the De Pins family in 1766, resulting in minor modifications to the structure.
Current Status
Today, an association of owners oversees this historical monument, which now hosts a range of prestigious exhibitions.
